Pedernales Falls State Park: Saturday June 20th

The Saturday before Russ went back to school, we went to Fredericksberg and Pedernales Falls. Fredericksberg is a small German town about an hour away. The main thing to do there is go to all the shops all along the main street. Shops and shopping in general is not really up mine or Russell's alley. So we did a quick walk through, yawned, and then found a German restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was fantastic. There is something about sauerkraut that just hits the spot. You can go months and months without it and then all of a sudden it becomes a need. After fulfilling that need, you are set for months again. My schnitzel was quite delicious as well. And that's all I have to say about Fredricksberg.

After lunch, we drove out to Pedernales Falls. It was a scorching weekend. Temperatures were definitely over 100 degrees. Despite the heat we still enjoyed the hike. There were a lot of cool different lizards. It was fun to watch them run around on the hot sand. I'm assuming it was because the ground was so hot that they look more like they were skipping as they ran with their tails held really high. The sand down at the falls was HOT! It was not fun to have such hot sand get stuck in your sandals.












There were some nice views from the falls. The water was a bright green and the trees on the waters edge were beautiful.

Up on the "falls" we climbed all over the rocks until we couldn't stand the heat any longer. I think rock formations always look cool. It's amazing how time and water can shape and smooth and carve out big heavy boulders.












After hiking we went over to another section of the river where you could swim. We didn't bring Athena even though we had originally planned to because we read online that dogs were not allowed in the swimming hole. I wish we had brought her anyway since there were lots of dogs there. ( There were three tough looking Mexican guys with well groomed poodles all with painted red toe nails. Interesting...)She would have loved swimming! Oh well, it gives us another reason to go back. The water was warm. It would have been nice for it to be a little cooler since it was so scorching hot outside, but it was refreshing enough. We remembered to bring our waterproof disposable camera from our Amistad trip so that we could use the last two pictures before developing the film.
